Tribute to Eight Belles, the filly that was euthanized at the end of the 2008 Kentucky Derby after finishing second, and the only filly in the feild. After crossing the finish line she fractured both front ankels. She joins the long list of many other racehorses who have had their lives cut short by accidents on track, including Babaro and Ruffian, among others.
I firmly beleive that the racing industry needs to change its standards and race horses only when they reach maturity, and not as 3 year olds, and the number of deaths on track only prove that the animals are for to young to be raced.
